Professional Background: Dr. Jon Waisberg has dedicated 50 years to the field of ophthalmology, serving the Humber and North York communities with distinction. He began his career by opening a small solo practice on Jane Street, where he provided care for 35 years, particularly to underprivileged and immigrant populations.

Career Highlights:

  • Northwestern Hospital: Dr. Waisberg was first on staff at Northwestern Hospital, where he eventually became the head of ophthalmology. His leadership and expertise led to his appointment as the surgical director of Northwestern and Humber Memorial hospitals from 1996 to 2004.
  • Humber River Regional Hospital: Following the merger of Humber Memorial Hospital with York Finch, he continued to contribute significantly to the newly formed Humber River Regional Hospital.

Transition to North Toronto Eye Care: At the age of 65, Dr. Waisberg transitioned from his solo practice to join North Toronto Eye Care. He continues to work part-time, demonstrating his ongoing dedication to his profession.

Legacy and Impact: Dr. Waisberg is celebrated for his comprehensive ophthalmological care and surgical expertise. His patients have always held him in high regard, frequently inquiring about him and expressing their best wishes. He last performed surgery at Branson Hospital before focusing solely on medical ophthalmology. Known for his surgical acumen, he has always stayed curious about the latest technological advances in his field.

Recognition: Dr. Waisberg is being honored at the Humber River Medical Staff Association (MSA) meeting for his 50 years of service. Colleagues and patients alike congratulated him on this milestone. His dedication, skill, and compassionate care have left an indelible mark on the community.
