Cataract Diagnostics

These diagnostic tests help us evaluate your eye health and plan the most effective treatments for corneal and cataract conditions.

• A-Scan: This test measures the length of your eye from the cornea to the retina, helping diagnose visual disorders and calculate the power of the intraocular lens (IOL) needed for cataract surgery.

• Lenstar LS 900: This device provides detailed measurements of your eye, improving the accuracy of cataract surgery and helping achieve better surgical outcomes.

• Nidek BCVA Machine: This machine measures the best possible vision correction by analyzing how light reflects through your eye, determining the necessary vision correction.

• OPD-Scan III Refractive Power/ Corneal Analyzer: This comprehensive analysis tool combines several tests to provide detailed information about your eye’s surface and visual acuity, helping us diagnose conditions like astigmatism accurately.

• Zeiss IOLMaster®: The IOLMaster® provides precise measurements for IOL implantation, including corneal thickness and eye length, ensuring the best possible vision after cataract surgery.

Cataract Surgery Technology

Our advanced cataract surgery technologies ensure precise, safe, and effective procedures, providing you with the best possible outcomes.

• CATALYS™ Precision Laser System: The CATALYS™ Femto Laser provides bladeless cataract surgery with precision. It uses 3D imaging to create precise incisions and fragment the lens, leading to quicker recovery and better surgical outcomes. Although not covered by OHIP, it offers significant benefits in terms of safety and accuracy.

• Centurion® Vision System: This system uses ultrasound energy to safely break up and remove cataracts, adapting to changes during surgery for smoother and safer results.

• Ellex Tango™ YAG Laser: After cataract surgery, a cloudy membrane can form. The Clarion YAG Laser creates small openings in this membrane to improve vision clarity.

• iTrace™: This technology combines multiple tests to provide precise measurements of your vision quality and eye abnormalities, helping us plan the best treatment for you.

• Zeiss OPMI Lumera® 700 Microscope: This high-quality microscope provides clear visuals of your eye during surgery, ensuring precise and accurate procedures.

• VERION™ Image Guided System: This system captures high-resolution images of your eye and maps out critical details for cataract surgery. Each step of the surgery is customized to your unique eye structure, enhancing accuracy and efficiency. Although not covered by OHIP, it offers exceptional precision for better surgical outcomes.

Cornea

We offer advanced diagnostics for corneal conditions to ensure accurate diagnosis and effective treatment planning.

• Antares Topographer: This device provides advanced corneal topography, dry eye diagnostics, and contact lens fittings.

• Zeiss ATLAS® Topographer: The Atlas Topographer creates a 3D map of the corneal surface, helping with diagnosis, contact lens fittings, and planning refractive procedures.

• Epithelial OCT: This imaging technology provides detailed images of the corneal epithelium, helping diagnose and monitor various corneal conditions.

• Endothelial Cell Count/Specular Microscope: This test detects and monitors endothelial cell loss, helping determine the need for corneal surgery. Special focus is made in patients’ with Fuch’s Dystrophy.

• Pentacam®: The Pentacam collects 3D images of the front part of your eye, helping us assess suitability for laser vision correction, detect keratoconus, and analyze cataracts.

Dry Eye

Our dry eye diagnostics help identify the cause of your symptoms.

• HD Analyzer™: This device measures visual quality and optical scattering caused by dry eye, helping us understand the severity of your condition.

• InflammaDry® MMP-9 Test: This test measures inflammation on the ocular surface, detecting markers elevated in dry eye patients and helping us plan the best treatment.

• LipiScan™: This imaging test evaluates the meibomian glands, providing high-definition images to diagnose dry eye accurately.

• OPD-Scan III Refractive Power/ Corneal Analyzer: This comprehensive analysis tool provides an accurate assessment of the corneal surface, helping diagnose dry eye and other conditions.

• Tear Osmolarity Testing: This in-office test measures the salt content of your tears, providing an accurate assessment of dry eye severity and helping plan the best treatment.

Our dry eye treatments target the cause of your symptoms to provide effective relief.

• Intense Pulsed Light (IPL) Therapy: IPL uses light energy to treat dry eye by liquefying clogged oils in the meibomian glands and reducing bacteria and mites, providing relief from symptoms.

• LipiFlow®: This treatment heats and massages the meibomian glands to unclog them and promote oil production, improving tear quality and relieving dry eye symptoms.

Glaucoma

• OPTOS®: This wide-field retinal imaging technology provides a comprehensive view of the retina, helping detect early signs of glaucoma and other retinal conditions.

• Ellex Tango™ SLT/YAG Combination Laser: This laser reduces intraocular pressure by improving fluid flow in the eye, targeting only cells containing melanin and leaving surrounding tissue intact.

• Zeiss Humphrey Visual Field Analyzer (HVF 24-2 and 10-2): This device measures peripheral and central vision, aiding in the diagnosis and management of glaucoma by detecting early changes.

LASIK (Anterior Segment Imaging and Keratoconus)

We offer comprehensive diagnostics to evaluate your suitability for LASIK and to detect and manage keratoconus.

• Corvis™ ST: This device measures the biomechanics of your cornea, helping diagnose conditions like keratoconus and assess suitability for LASIK surgery.

• Epithelial OCT: This imaging technology provides high-resolution images of the corneal epithelium, helping diagnose and monitor various corneal conditions.

• OPD-Scan III Refractive Power/ Corneal Analyzer (Optical Path Difference Analyzer): This tool evaluates corneal topography and wavefront aberrations, helping plan LASIK surgery and correct vision problems.

• Pentacam®: This device provides detailed maps of the anterior segment of your eye, including corneal thickness and shape, essential for planning LASIK surgery.

Narrow Angles

• DAI (Digital Angle Imaging): This non-contact imaging technique measures the anterior chamber angle, helping assess narrow angles and potential angle closure.

• Zeiss Humphrey Visual Field Analyzer (HVF 24-2): This test assesses your peripheral vision to identify potential glaucomatous changes, often associated with narrow angles.

• OCT Optic Nerve and RNFL Imaging: This imaging test evaluates the optic nerve structure for changes due to narrow angles, helping detect potential problems early.

• OPTOS®: This wide-field retinal imaging technology provides a comprehensive view of the retina, helping detect peripheral retinal issues associated with narrow angles.

Plaquenil (Hydroxychloroquine) Toxicity Screening

We offer specialized tests to monitor the effects of Plaquenil on your eyes, ensuring early detection of any toxicity.

• Zeiss Humphrey Visual Field Analyzer (HVF 10-2): This test detects central visual field defects caused by Plaquenil toxicity, helping monitor the effects of the medication.

• OCT Macula: This imaging test monitors structural changes in the macula due to Plaquenil toxicity, helping detect early signs of damage.

• OPTOS®: This comprehensive retinal imaging technology detects early signs of Plaquenil toxicity, helping monitor the effects of the medication.

Refractive Diagnostics

We use advanced diagnostics to plan and customize your refractive surgery, ensuring the best possible outcomes.

• Intralase iFS® Femtosecond Laser: This laser provides advanced precision for LASIK and cataract surgeries, resulting in fewer side effects and better outcomes.

• Pentacam®: This device collects 3D images of the front part of your eye, helping assess suitability for laser vision correction and detect conditions like keratoconus.

• Pupilometer: This tool analyzes how your pupil responds to different stimuli, helping assess risks for night vision problems after LASIK surgery.

Refractive Lens Exchange Technology

Refractive Lens Exchange (RLE) is similar to cataract surgery and involves replacing your eye’s natural lens with an artificial intraocular lens (IOL) to correct refractive errors.

• CATALYS™ Precision Laser System: The CATALYS™ Femto Laser provides bladeless surgery with precision. • Nidek B-Scan: This imaging test provides cross-sectional images of your eye, helping diagnose retinal detachment, tissue damage, and more.

• Ellex Integre® Pro Scan Laser: This advanced retina laser treats various retinal conditions with precision, offering targeted treatments for issues like diabetic retinopathy and retinal tears.

• Nidek Fundus Camera: This device takes images of the back of your eye to monitor overall eye health and detect changes over time.

• OPTOS® California ICG: This wide-field retinal imaging technology allows us to see more of your retina for accurate diagnoses, providing a comprehensive view of retinal health.

• Zeiss CIRRUS™ OCT: This imaging test uses light waves to produce detailed images of your retina, helping diagnose conditions like macular degeneration and diabetic eye disease. This test is non-invasive and provides high-resolution images.

Uveitis / Iritis

We use advanced imaging technology to diagnose and monitor inflammation in your eye, ensuring effective treatment and management.

• Zeiss Humphrey Visual Field Analyzer (HVF 24-2): This test assesses your peripheral vision for field loss due to inflammation, helping diagnose and monitor uveitis or iritis.

• OCT Macula: This imaging test evaluates the macula for inflammatory damage or edema, helping monitor the effects of uveitis or iritis.

• OCT Optic Nerve and RNFL Imaging: This imaging test evaluates the optic nerve structure for inflammatory changes, helping detect and monitor uveitis or iritis.

• OPTOS®: This wide-field retinal imaging technology detects signs of inflammation, helping diagnose and monitor uveitis or iritis.

These advanced tests ensure comprehensive diagnosis, monitoring, and management of various eye conditions, providing you with the best eye care possible. While some of these state-of-the-art technologies are not covered by OHIP and require out-of-pocket payment, they offer significant benefits in precision, safety, and outcomes, making them a valuable investment in your eye health.
